This tanda is not so much alternative as it is not traditional. These are some modern milongas which are lots of fun to dance to. I have always loved Al Galope but always found it difficult to fit into a tanda. This version of Milonga Sentimental is just so beautiful. In fact every song on Patio de Tango is wonderful especially their versions of Malena and Palomita Blanca. The star of the set is the wonderful Morena by Estaban Morgado.
This weeks tanda is a classic golden age tanda by Carlos di Sarli with Alberto Podestá singing. It demonstrates my belief that tandas should be homogeneous in style and flow. Each song should flow into the next without a strong shift in tempo, this helps dancers develop rhythm and a connection to the music which grows throughout tanda.
This is a mixed singer tanda, but you could leave the first one off an have an all Maida tanda. The first two songs go very well together though. This is not my favorite tanda, as it is a little too calm for Canaro, but the songs are very pretty.

Poema is a difficult song, but I like this tanda and it usually goes over well. I try to start calmer and grow in energy through the set.

Some people are saying that Invierno is the new Poema. It is a great song, but I wish a cleaner version of it was available. This is a great set.

Not a huge fan of Quinteto Don Pancho, but they are all nice songs and any of these would make a perfectly good tanda.
I would start with Todo Te Nombra and drop Toda Mi Vida if I wanted to start off with lots of energy OR I would do the opposite to start with less energy and build up energy through the tanda.

A little off the beaten path here, but still very nice songs. Any 3 or 4 would make a very nice tanda.
Di Sarli - Rufino Collections
The combination of di Sarli and Rufino is considered one of the greatest duos of Argentine Tango. This is a tanda of some of their greatest songs from 1940-1942. The last song in this list "En un Beso la Vida" was recorded when Rufino was just 18 years old.
